Fun rewriting the system

Here's a great article on why rewrites are dangerous

Two things to keep in mind:

  1. Refactor constantly to avoid the necessity to "rewrite" in the first place

  2. If you must reimplement a system, and you have any influence over the positioning of the product/system, convince the powers that be to position it differently so you can release incrementally without needing to completely reimplement the functionality of the new system first..

Still Pumped From Using The Mouse

I've always been in awe of the cleverness of the title of this post. It's a Scott Adams book title (a Dilbert cartoon collection book). The fact of the matter is, if mouse time built up arm muscle, my peers and I would be walking around like a giant fiddler crabs.

At any rate, now we can be a lot more comfortable after a few hours of gaming, coding, or (if you've gone to the dark side like me) managing your inbox. The Air Cooled Mouse Pad might help.

New Google Reader release

I don't see any mention of it in the Google Reader Blog, but a new release of Google Reader seems to have come out. There is now a (grayed out) "labels" drop down on the top of the navigation area. But more impressive, Reeder now seems to correctly manage my subscriptions and no longer shows repeat of old posts and blogs from which I've previously unsubscribed. That situation was getting pretty bad before yesterday. Now if only they'd let us know how they determine relevancy..
